New movies coming to Hallmark in June include The Love Heist with Peter Porte and Lyndsy Fonseca premiering on June 20th: Celebrity stylist Kayli must team up with hotel security chief Mills to track down an iconic piece of fashion history after it goes missing on her watch before the Chicago Costume Gala.
It wouldn't be Hallmark without them working in Christmas somehow, so here's the schedule for their Christmas in July premieres.
Oh, Mary! creator Cole Escola, who is writing the upcoming Miss Piggy movie, shows that they truly understand her: “What makes Miss Piggy such an icon? That she’s so awful,” Escola says. “She behaves in a way we all wish we could behave. And we all do sometimes behave. I think her needs and desires come from a place of pain. And I think that is something that strikes a chord in people. But I don’t think any of that is visible, or it shouldn’t be. It should just be funny and fun. Her incredibly high opinion of herself and her self-esteem and self-assuredness – all of it is delicious.”
When asked who gives off the ultimate real-life Miss Piggy energy today, Escola bypassed politicians and landed perfectly on faux-heiress Anna Delvey.
“Showing up to Fashion Week with the ankle monitor? That’s Miss Piggy. She should be writing the movie, not me. She’ll run away with the money and not work, which is exactly what Miss Piggy would do.” As to whether Miss Piggy would make a good Mary Todd Lincoln? “She’d be the best Mary. She really should have originated the role, but I was greedy.”
Wilson Cruz, Johnny Sibilly and Guy Branum have something to say about Rami Malek going gay-for-pay again. Wilson Cruz (Star Trek: Discovery) commented beneath Out’s Instagram posting, which featured the headline “Rami Malek feared once again playing a gay singer with AIDS.”
“Some of us would have been HONORED to bring our history ALIVE, because it’s OURS,” said Wilson.
Guy Branum (Chelsea Lately, Bros) reshared one of Cruz’s Instagram stories. it’s unclear if Branum or Cruz added the highlighted words stating that “an openly queer man” would not have feared taking the role.
In a follow-up story, Branum said, “The most annoying part of cis/straight people playing trans/gay roles AND not fat people playing fat suit roles is that afterwards, part of the press and processing must be telling us what an INDIGNITY it was. ‘I had to kiss someone with a beard!’ ‘I was worried people might think I was gay’ ‘They had to shave my whole body’ ‘five hours to get into that sweaty suit’ It’s a reminder they see our identities as insulting, and they’re just slumming for an award, but we cannot forget they are slumming.”
